quotes

These are a few quotes I saw today that I really liked.
The pics were added to make the post a bit prettier. 🙂

It is a blessed thing that in every age someone has had the individuality enough and courage enough to stand by his own convictions.
~Robert Green Ingersoll

To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human can fight, and never stop fighting.
~E. E. Cummings

The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
~Friedrich Nietzsche

The great challenge which faces us is to assure that, in our society of big-ness, we do not strangle the voice of creativity, that the rules of the game do not come to overshadow its purpose, that the grand orchestration of society leaves ample room for the man who marches to the music of another drummer.
~Hubert H. Humphrey

We are all worms, but I do believe I am a glowworm.

May you always feel loved

May you find serenity and tranquility in a world you may not always understand. May the pain you have known and the conflict you have experienced give you the strength to walk through life facing each new situation with courage and optimism. Always know that there are those whose love and understanding will always be there, even when you feel most alone. May you discover enough goodness in others to believe in a world of peace. May a kind word, a reassuring touch, and a warm smile be yours every day of your life, and may you give these gifts as well as receive them. Remember the sunshine when the storm seems unending.

Teach love to those who hate, and let that love embrace you as you go out into the world. May the teachings of those you admire become part of you, so that you may call upon them. Remember, those whose lives you have touched and whose have touched yours are always a part of you, even if the encounters were less than you would have wished. It is the content of the encounter that is more important than the form.

May you not become too concerned with material matters, but instead place immeasurable value on the goodness in your heart. Find time each day to see beauty and love in the world around you. Realize that each person has limitless abilities, but each of us is different in our own way. What you feel you lack in the present may become one of your strengths in the future. May you see your future as one filled with promise and possibility. Learn to view everything as a worthwhile experience. May you find enough inner strength to determine your own worth by yourself, and not be dependent on another’s judgment of your accomplishments. May you always feel loved.

what’s that word again?

Suzanne went shopping for her mom during lunch today. When she got back, she told us what she bought.

Phoebe was one the phone and when she finished her conversation, she asked what all she had gotten when shopping.

Monica said, “She bought a paper towel dispenser, a heater and two Afghanistans.” At our funny look, she said, “You know, those throws for the couch.”

Phoebe – “Where do you buy those Afghanistans?”
Monica – “Spencer’s.”
Phoebe – “By the way, you mean AFGANS, right?”
Monica – “Oh, yeah. I couldn’t remember that word.”

Silly girl.

big imagination?

A few months ago, when youngest daughter (10) stayed over at my sister’s house & got scared after watching “Hide and Seek,” I told her that she got scared so much because she has an overactive imagination. She asked me if that meant that people who like scary movies don’t have a big imagination – I told her that I guess that could be true, but probably they’re just not scared by movies for some reason – probably because they remember that they’re only a movie & not real.

Tonight, my sister took her 2 teenagers to see “The Grudge 2,” and her 2 youngest stayed with us. When she came to pick up the girls, my lovely daughter who has selective memory said, “My mom said you don’t get scared by scary movies because you don’t have a very big imagination.”

That is NOT what I said – but how do I explain that to my 10 yr old who insists that I did say it? Good grief.

Gobble gobble gobble!

tail – or – mullett?

Overheard:

So, I told my boyfriend that he cannot make fun of my kids’ tail (hair). His kid has a mullett and that’s worse!

Uhmmm, yeah. She really said that. I did not imagine it.

Didn’t tails go out of style when New Kids on the Block did? And how is a tail better than a mullett? Am I even spelling that correctly? Does it have 2 L’s and 2 T’s? Good grief. That’s a sign that I have avoided anything to do with that hairstyle – even spelling it is appalling.
