Overheard conversations

A: You remind me of someone. I know! Drew Careymore.
B: Who? Drew Barrymore? or Drew Carey?
A: Yeah! That’s him!

*****************************************************

A:I did not have any implants during my surgery.
B: It was not a prosthetic implant, it was a suture.
A: I am telling you, I did not have an implant. I just went to the airport.
B: The airport?
A: I didn’t set off the metal detector.
B: The sutures we use are not metal.
A: Oh.

*****************************************************

A: I think that during their training, overseas customer service reps pick their favorite movie star’s name to use.
I get Julia a lot. Julia Roberts. And Steven. Steven Costner.

B: Who? Do you mean Kevin Costner or Steven Segall?

A: Oh yeah. You know I always get movie star names mixed up.

    Would you rather:

  1. have your own food network tv show
    OR
    your own show on NBC?
  2. sit on 100 pounds of ice for an hour
    OR
be lectured at about your illicit behavior by a priest and your parents?
  3. be attacked by a swarm of mosquitos
    OR
    a gang of squirrels?
  4. be a strict vegan
    OR

    hard-core atkins diet follower?

My choices:

1. NBC
2. Ice
3. Mosquitos
4. Vegan

Which would you choose?

heaven

When youngest daughter was telling me about her day at school this afternoon, she said that one of her friends lied to Heaven & now they’re not friends anymore.

I said, “What? She lied to Heaven?”

“It’s a girl, Mom. Her name is Heaven.”

I asked, “Like H-E-A-V-E-N?”

“Yes.”

Sooooo, whatcha think about that?

cheetah girls

Just as we’d finally ridden out the storm of the mania from the first Cheetah Girls movie, Disney set the newest hurricane spiraling at my house.

On Friday, we had a “cheetah-licious” Cheetah Girls 2 movie premier party at my sister’s house. My daughters & neices were very excited. From 7pm until 9pm, we heard lots of squealing, giggling, singing, more giggling, and whispering.

The girls have now seen the movie a few times, have memorized several of the songs, and have decided that they must become the next Cheetah Girls.

I suggested that they try a new gimmick. Instead of being Cheetah Girls, since Disney already has those, why not be different?

How about

The Lion Girls?
The Dolphin Girls?
The Shark Girls?
The Giraffe Girls?
The Koala Girls?

They did not like my ideas. At. All.

The girls now want to decorate their bedrooms in cheetah print. Well, my youngest daughter & my sister’s eight year old do. The other girls are not quite as enthralled.

In case you wondered, it’s now official
(at my house & my sister’s house, at least) –

Cheetah Girls Rock!

the blooms and the hilton

My African violet has been blooming since May. These pics are from Thursday this past week.

Have to share this one…. as I find it quite funny.

Just down from my sister’s house is the Hobo Hilton! YIPPEE!!

Each time we go to her house, the kids & I look over at the Hobo Hilton & crack up laughing. I cannot wait for the day we see it pulling out of the drive for a vacation. πŸ™‚

pop eye

It’s 10pm on Thursday & I just realized that it’s Thursday. Good grief. No Thursday Thirteen this week for me.

On a more positive note, I’m happy to report that Bob’s pop eye is healing. Bob is the betta that oldest daughter got for her birthday. He’s shimmery blue and very pretty.

About a week ago, I noticed that one of his eyes was really big & swollen. It looked like it had a big bubble around it & like it was about to burst. Worried, I searched online for “betta bubble eye” and found that it was probably due to an injury to his eye. I remembered then how he flopped around & probably hit something when I was cleaning out his water bowl.

So, we kept him in a quiet room, made sure his water was clean, fed him as usual, and now, it’s almost back to normal.

I don’t have any photos of Bob (they don’t come out so well with the water & bowl in the way), but here’s a page that has a few photos of a betta with pop eye.

no legs?

Today at work, two coworkers came in from lunch arguing. They had been talking about the show CSI: New York. Rachel mentioned that she liked it best of the CSI shows. She said that she thinks Gary Sinese is a good actor.

Daphne asked if he’s the one with no legs.

Laughing, Rachel tells her that that was in a movie – Forrest Gump.

Daphne was convinced that Gary Sinese really has no legs and professed great respect for him as an actor and as a man with determination to succeed regardless of his physical condition.

After joking around with her all through lunch, she did a google search for Gary Sinese.

She discovered that

(gasp)

he does have legs!

Daphne says she’s lost all respect for him and that we’ve ruined the show for her. She says that we should have never told her. Daphne also wonders why he walks so slowly on CSI: New York. And why has she never seen him in shorts. And, why do they hardly ever film his whole body. She only remembers seeing him from the waist up.

    Would you rather:

  1. cover all your food in barbeque sauce OR eat everything with a toothpick?
  2. Eat with a toothpick.

  3. know how to throw a lasso with perfect accuracy OR be an expert trombonist?
  4. Be an expert trombonist.

  5. smell like pickles OR walk like a penguin?
  6. As much as I would not want to smell like pickles, I think having to walk like a penguin would be horrible. I have a mental image of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.

  7. touch your finger to your nose everytime somebody says the word “know” OR laugh uncontrollably whenever somebody says the word “but”?
  8. Touching my finger to my nose would be MUCH better than the uncontrollable laughter.

She’s a … what?

**names have been changed to protect the guilty**

Today, Phoebe was over talking to Chandler. My desk is near Chandler’s, so I couldn’t help overhearing part of their conversation.

They were talking about their children’s baseball teams. At one point, Phoebe said, “I told him that I hate to be the BARRIER of bad news….”

After that I heard nothing else, I was thinking of what a barrier of bad news would look like. Would it be a big wall of newspapers (always full of bad news), or more like a wall of smoke? Would it be an invisible wall that you keep banging into with your head?

Any ideas?

*****************************************

We now only have the black & white rabbit. (I love Craigslist.. thanks for mentioning it in your blog, Jackie!)

We were told that he’s a boy (after thinking he was a girl & calling him/her Haley all weekend). He’s now named Jack.

He was not named because of jackrabbits.

He was named after Captain Jack Sparrow. πŸ™‚

Today is my niece’s 17th birthday. It was nice to be able to see her on her birthday, since they live closeby now. πŸ™‚

Technorati Profile

lights, camera, action!

After watching the “behind the scenes” dvd of Pirates of the Caribbean, my kids decided, with all their friends who live nearby, to make a movie about ninjas.

All weekend long, they’ve practiced, had “auditions,” and worked on the screen play. This afternoon, they did a practice run and then tried to “shoot” their movie with our camcorder.

They got frustrated with one boy because he kept beating his stomach & making it jiggle in front of the camera. Evidently, this has nothing to do with ninjas & was not part of their storyline.

They said he ruined their movie.

They’re back in the “pre-production” stage coming up with a new idea. Perhaps they’ll write in a part that includes the stomach beating boy so he will not feel left out.

They’re so funny.

Rabbits

We got rabbits tonight from the daughter of a lady I work with.

Aren’t they cute?

I think they may have fleas, though, so I’ll be on my way to the pet supply store for flea powder first thing tomorrow.
