Youngest daughter is reading a chapter book aloud across the room from me. Berenstein Bears. The story has a bully. She’s asked me what “thug” means. And what “throwing his weight around” means. Next was “scrapping.”

The part she’s reading now is about the bully boy or bear smoking cigarettes on the sly and sneaking in to take a shower. One of the bears said that she may not have a super smart sniffer but she can tell basketball game sweat from cigarrette smoke.

I think books like this are a great way to teach about mistakes and consequences!
