No return call

I’ve left a message for youngest daughter’s friend’s dad asking him to call to talk about the sheriff calling me that night to pick her up from Frontier City. I also left a message for daughter’s friend’s mom, his ex wife, asking her to call so we can plan a time for the girls to get together.

Neither has called me back.

I’m sure I’d be embarassed if I were the dad… but I know I’d at least call to apologize.

I didn’t say anything about it in the message I left for the mom… I’m not sure that she even knows about it.

It’ll be sad if daughter’s friendship ends b/c of something like this. They’ve been friends for 4 years.. spending the night together 1 or 2 times each month… talking on the phone… playing on the same basketball team.

Oh well. I cannot do more than I can do, right?

He dances with…

On Saturday, the kids & I were in the car talking about school starting soon & my son said that he wants to play basketball again this year. He’ll be in 5th grade, so it’ll be with the all-sports league & not a school team like in junior high. Youngest daughter said, “Won’t you be nervous to be on a team with all new people that you don’t know very well?” (they’ll be at a new school since we moved).

Son said, with a very serious face, “I’m not afraid, I dance with wolves.”

I giggled a little (tried to hide it.. didn’t want to embarrass him). He was so cute! Then he began adding to it… “I howl with hyenas, I waltz with werewolves, I bite with bats, I swim with sharks, I eat barracudas for breakfast that I’ve caught with my bare hands.”

Each one, he said loudly & with hand motions emphasizing the words. When he got to the barracudas, he rolled down the window & shouted how he caught them with his bare hands.

That kid is hilarious sometimes. He makes my heart happy.
